Phowa-Course
05. to 09. June 2025
Dupseng Rinpoche
Phowa-Course
In Tibetan Buddhism Phowa is a special meditation practice and is regarded as a useful preparation for the meditator’s own dying process. Phowa requires prior an initiation on Buddha Amitabha, detailed explanations and careful instruction. We are very pleased that Dupseng Rinpoche will guide us through this challenging practice.
As a condition for participating in this Phowa course, Dupseng Rinpoche recommends that we prepare ourselves accordingly and familiarise ourselves with the meditation on Buddha Amitabha in advance. For this purpose, he has given us a short meditation guide that you should use for your preparation.
Depending on your previous experience of meditating on Buddha Amitabha, your preparation period should ideally begin immediately, at least you should train between 3 to 6 months. During this time, you should practise the meditation on Buddha Amitabha every day if possible.
In the case of last-minute registrations less than three months before the start of the course, we would have to look together with Dupseng Rinpoche at how the preparatory practice can be organised on a case-by-case basis. We are planning to include meditation on Buddha Amitabha for practice purposes in our Kagyu Berlin regular meditation programme. We will inform you as soon as the dates have been finalised.
Concerning the Phowa-course: the practice requires the course to be held as a closed retreat. It is therefore not possible to participate on a daily basis and the course can only be booked for all days.
If you are not yet familiar with Dupseng Rinpoche, you can find out more about him and his Dharma activities on his website: https://www.dupseng.org
